Services

Three surveyors are available. With one phone call, you can schedule a survey in short order.

Our scheduling is aimed to take advantage of our different skills and fields of expertise.

We make every effort
to provide the finished survey report on the following business day.

For references, call any boatyard in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Condition & Valuation Survey:
Pre-purchase, Insurance and Financing

  • This is a comprehensive inspection, and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. We recommend, in pre-purchase situations, that the surveyor attends the sea trial; this time aboard the vessel underway provides the surveyor with better knowledge of the vessel’s performance and equipment operation.

  • This inspection covers structural integrity, as well as all on-board systems:  propulsion, mechanical, electrical, tankage, and plumbing, electronics, galley, rigging, safety, and miscellaneous deck equipment, and overall level of maintenance.

  • The out-of-water inspection includes assessment of the wetted surfaces, appendages (keel, rudder, skeg, struts, etc.), and drive train.

  • An appraisal of the vessel’s fair market value and replacement cost is included.

  • Aloft rig surveys are also available.
  • We make every effort to provide the finished survey report on the following business day. Survey reports are e-mailed as a PDF file.
  • Prior to survey, whether pre-purchase or insurance, vessels should be clean and organized, i.e., uncluttered. For a complete assessment of systems, batteries must be charged and shore power available.

Damage Inspection

  • Performed to assess the extent of damage, recommend repairs, estimate repair cost, and if requested, determine the possible cause.

Consultation

  • We consult on an hourly basis on a variety of boat-related topics, drawing from a wide range of experience inspecting, building, teaching and operating many types of water crafts.  Preparation for coastal or offshore passages, helping a buyer to select the most appropriate boat and/or gear for intended use are few of the possible topics.
